This horror thriller is based upon the final chapter of the Bible and centers upon Abby Quinn, a pregnant woman living in Venice, California who leases her garage apartment to mysterious David, who seems to be trying to claim the soul and the life of her unborn child. Little does she know that he is Christ incarnate and has come to open each of the seven seals and release upon the wicked world the prophesied disasters. He has already broken six seals and now with Abby's baby prepares to break the seventh. Meanwhile, David is stalked by the mysterious Father Lucci who has more than a passing interest in Apocalyptic

The book of Revelation, which details the Apocalypse, speaks only of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Rev. 6.12 and the seven seals, seven vials, and seven trumpets that will signal the destruction of the earth. The seven seals are enumerated towards the end of the movie when Abby (Demi Moore) and Avi (Manny Jacobs) figure out what's going on. The seven seals are the four Horsemen, the death of the last martyr (seal 5), earthquakes and a blood moon (6th seal), and the birth of a baby without a soul (7th seal).

The Seventh Sign is the type of film that was designed to prey on people’s fear of the end-of-the-world and Satan. In this film God is going to pass judgment on the world but in order to complete the process of opening all seven seals and the premise of the movie is to prevent the seventh seal opening from coming to fruition. In the movie Abby has visions that take her back to the time when Jesus was crucified thus giving the impression that she had a previous life in which all of the main characters had interacted together previously.
