Summary:

This case is about a North American company called ModMeters that is looking to expand globally. Although most of the executive board agrees in this decision, the CIO does not. The shortness of people, money and time along with old IT systems causes the budget to be tight. A feasibility analysis has been brought to the attention from all departments. Each department has its own issues to pertain to, but many employees are looking to only benefit themselves. Since there is such a low budget the IT department must decide which assignment has the highest priority, and will contribute to the future of ModMeters.

Develop an IT planning process for ModMeters to accomplish the demands as set out above.

1.) In order to incorporate all types of IT initiatives and benefit from them, the whole organizations IT strategy must be reengineered to work together. Instead of looking at IT as a unit itself, intergrading it into the business as a whole and making it work towards a common goal will create worth in the company. The subsequent steps will have to be accomplished in every sector of ModMeters in order to reach their demands.

* First, find out what technologies each employees uses in there sectors. A quick survey can be done to accumulate the data about what technology tools suit them best and provide them with the most benefit. Processes that are less helpful can be dropped or improved for efficiency.

* Next, ModMeters should work on IT core competency. They should work to make sure that it is not effortless for competitors to duplicate their strategies. They should also be leveraged to many products and markets, and at the same time contribute to the end consumer. The consumer needs to benefit in some way to make ModMeters different than its competition.

* Finally, ModMeters can look within the company for individuals that outperform. Finding people in the company that can utilize the IT technologies can...
