Summary Week 4

For this week tutorial, there are 3 presentation topics to be presented. One was to choose a journal article on Communication and Organisations and by reading it student are asked to reviews literature by making an argument about what has been done. One group presented on journal of applied communication research. The topic was discussing on job satisfaction in a company whom does telework. They come to a conclusion whereby the researcher should have done the report face to face as they are having trouble with quantitative method. Another discussed journal was from human communication research. The journal talks about cultural different in usage. The two cultures are between Korean and American. They had explained that American prefer to use thank you while Korean used the word apology in asking permission. The conclusion of such journal are these type of communication are a face threat whereby it is use to manipulate especially for employees.

The last group has presented the topic of classical theories. By using classical theories, the group had defined the organization as a machine metaphor. They were given a task to observe a food restaurant and how they are managing the shop by using classical approach. However, the topic discuss were not compatible to the topic as the lecturer stated they should have observe more especially during peak hours and also different days.

There was not lecture this week as it is being replaced with consultation hours for assignment 1. The lecturer had explained step by step on what is important to be included in the proposal. Also a brief explanation on the literature review as the importance to support the topic research.
