As far as I can tell, the TXJ companies did not have any security controls in place. Unfortunately for TJX companies, the firewall system that they’ve been using is not capable of blocking any suspicious activities that can happen in their computer system. The data encryption technology, the WEP encryption that they were using especially in their wireless networks and other stores was not updated enough, which caused hugged troubles during the attacks of malicious spyware. The damage even extended to the home wireless networks of TJX. The WPA or WPA2 technology could have offered a better security system, as it is known to be harder to crack than the WEP. Aside from that, TJX locations also neglected to put up firewalls and other data encryption protocols in the networks. The worse offense of the TJX Company is storing credit card and debit card information; this is a major violation in the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. This is the standard that was established to eradicate the storage of private information like data relevant to debit or credits cards to any merchant system. However, this offense by the TJX was not purposely done, but was just a product of technology failure. The software they used simply did not meet the policy standards.
There were actually countless ways on how TJX can prevent the damages of such attacks. One way is to install firewall software and antivirus on their machines and networks. They should have upgraded their kiosk computer security, since those computers could directly access the internal networks that their computer replied upon. Hacking could have also been prevented if stricter or tighter security was implemented on their wireless networks. Also, passwords and data encryption are good ways of preventing hackers from spreading damages to their networks, as well.
From that one security neglect, the TJX companies lost about 1...
