My Personal Philosophy

Classroom management is important in the learning environment for both teacher and students. Teachers always have their own philosophy on classroom management that works for both the teacher and the students. Many factors can affect the development of the teacher’s philosophy, such as diversity of the students, the number of students, and rules set in place by the school. Classroom management is important for classroom procedures and routines. Key elements on personal philosophies are classroom management, planning, considerations, diverse students, implications, and classroom environment.

Classroom management for an elementary classroom is rules which will have positive and negative consequences, procedures, routines, planning, and strategies. According to Davies (2007), elementary classrooms can become better learning environments when teachers have rules, classroom management skills, and a belief that each child can be successful. Rules help create a predictable atmosphere that limit classroom disruptions and encourage children to use self-control (para. 1). Teachers must have control of the classroom so the learning environment is positive. Students should learn quickly what the routine of the classroom is. For example, students coming to class in the morning should get homework and materials out of backpack, then hang it on the hook in the back of the classroom.

Teachers need a classroom management plan because there will be chaos without structure of classroom rules. Students would not know what to do each day and the teacher will not be focused on strategies of learning. Teachers should have high expectations of students following rules such as being respectful to others around them, keep hands and feet to themselves, be prepared, follow directions, and be on time for school.
