It is widely acknowledged that cycling is one of the best ways for people to achieve good health and fitness. People who cycle regularly live longer than those who do not and lead healthier lives. Indeed, cycling has been shown to be the most effective thing an individual can do to improve health and increase longevity.

Additionally, cycling is one of a safer, convenient, low cost and environmentally friendly mode of transport, for leisure and other short trip. Therefore it leads to the increasing of people whose choose cycling as their hobby or daily routine.

Moreover, nowadays as we can see, there are so many cycling events everywhere either in state level or international level. The events mostly participate by individual or cyclists clubs all around Malaysia. Some of it is not a competition but a joy ride for families and friends, as the objective of the event is to promote closer ties among people staying in the area as well as anyone else who are keen in cycling.

It is heartening to note that the Tourism Ministry is embarking on the initiative to promote cycling as a tourism product. Cycling is a healthy lifestyle but it is too risky and dangerous to ride on the roads and fear being knocked down by cars or motorcycles. For instance at Kuala Lumpur, there are a big number of cyclists pedaling their hearts out along Guthrie Corridor on a weekend with concern about the safety. There some accidents reported last few months involving of a cyclist which got hit and run by a car during pedaling on the highway that lead to the death. [1]

As requested by Pantai Damai, Kuching assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who found out the necessarily of bicycle lane in housing estates that lead him to called on DBKU to consider allocating bicycle lanes for the benefit of cyclists in areas under his constituency.
