Business Communication

Communication is a means by which people transmit their thoughts and ideas or exchange information. Before there was technology, everything was done face-to-face and on paper. People used beepers to contact people and waiting for them to call. Nowadays there is technology to assist and send these thoughts and ideas to others faster. Business communication is a serious issue in today’s ever-increasing business economy. The current trend in business communication is steering toward e-mails and instant messaging (IM). In every professional setting, everything that a person does involves communication of some form.

A good business communication is a useful way to inform coworkers, employees, partners, and clients of a person’s intentions. One such communication form is e-mail. However, there are many hazards involved with e-mails. The hazards consist of information overload and workplace security. E-mails allow us to communicate with others effortlessly. However, the disadvantages behind e-mails are thoughtlessness, vulnerability, and it is an asynchronous form of communication. E-mails have become a channel for multiple additional functions such as collaboration, archiving, and task management items that e-mail was never designed to do. Other issues involved with e-mails are users find it hard to search for archived items because the inefficiency of the programs design and the lack of integration between archived e-mail attachments and the down loading of them.

E-mails can be an IT department’s nightmare with keeping these items secured and possessing the available data storage for the many e-mails that each employee may keep. Along with increasing rate of e-mails that contain attachments that need storage space.
