Professional Knowledge and Abilities

In the business world today, the job market is very competitive. There may be hundreds of hopeful applicants applying for one job. This is why having professional knowledge and abilities are so important when it comes to finding and having a successful career. I am a member of the United States Air Force, and like any organization the Air Force requires its Airmen to be knowledgeable and skillful in all aspects of their job. In the following paragraph I will explain how the Air Force helps its Airmen achieve their goals through the advancement of professional abilities.

As I had mentioned I am part of the United States Air Force, I am an aircraft mechanic, and there are over 50 people in my specific shop. Almost everyone in the shop has the same goal of becoming one of the 3 supervisors and advancing up the chain of command. One of the ways the Air Force helps Airmen advance and become eligible for promotion is through completion of Career Development Courses (CDCs) that are offered by the military. These courses are free and they teach a wide range of professional skills. Along with CDCs, another way the military helps its member’s progress within the ranks is with Professional Military Education (PME). PME teaches how to become a better leader at a specific rank level. For example, when an Airman reaches the junior leadership point of their career they would take the corresponding PME course. These courses are a huge part of progressing to Flight Chief, or military supervisor. Not only are some of the PME and CDC courses required to be promoted, but they are full of useful information on how to be a better supervisor.

Being a part of the United States Air Force has taught many things on being a better person, but that is not enough if I wish to make a career out of it. I need to have professional knowledge of the Air Force and how it works. I need to...
