Imagine being within a hospital that there is no order, staff does as they please, and there is no sense of structure of a business. This could be considered as being “controlled chaos” and not the way a hospital should be operated. The president or CEO of a healthcare organization must develop a mission for the organization so that everyone affiliated with the organization knows the expectations of what the organization is meaning to accomplish and how they are going to accomplish it. All healthcare organizations, whether it be a hospital or a health department, depend on having a mission or vision that relies on policies or guidelines for dealing with behavior, decision making and thinking within the organization (Johnson, 2009). When looking at Community Medical Center and the situation that has currently surfaced the president is confronted with quickly squashing the fires that have developed, this can be done be having a clear mission for the hospital. An effective mission or vision for Community Medical Center would be: Community Medical Center’s mission is to provide quality care for their patients while ensuring their safety of both their patients and employees.

When looking at the mission, the president of Community Medical Center must ensure that he is fulfilling what is being communicated to the public when making his decision as to how to deal with the situation concerning the operating room nurse who may have HIV/AIDS. By being told by the local newspaper that he has only 24 hours to give a press release, the nurse being uncooperative in the accepting the offer made and having a possible lawsuit the president of the hospital must make a hasty but concise decision.
