Good evening Sir and Good evening also to my dear classmates.

Today you will notice a play in which it implies a great provisions that the Filipino's manifest and contribute in the field of health, especially in nursing. Sometimes we have to adhere and commemorate those things that give aid to those individual living in the early life without anything else to cure such diseases.

We are here to portray the course of History of nursing in the Philippines as it goes beyond the modernizedstate of nursing.

As we start with :

Early Beliefs, Practices and Care of the sick

* Early Filipinos subscribed to superstitious belief and practices in relation to health and sickness

* Diseases, their causes and treatment were associated with mysticism and superstitions

* Cause of disease was caused by another person (an enemy of witch) or evil spirits

* Persons suffering from diseases without any identified cause were believed bewitched by “mangkukulam”

* Difficult childbirth were attributed to “nonos”

* Evil spirits could be driven away by persons with powers to expel demons

* Belief in special Gods of healing: priest-physician, word doctors, herbolarios/herb doctors

Scene 1:

(You will envision the portrayal of child delivery through "maghihilot". This was the common manuever for those concieving women during the early years.)

Character:

Maria - Pregnat

Aling Bening - Manghihilot

Scenario:

Maria is a preganant woman. Her state of pregnancy is in 9 months already. She when to bario Puting Bato to stroll, not knowing that she will be in labor in a few moment.

As she is starting to stolling she feel the ache at her stomach.

Maria: Ahhh...Ahhh..manganganak na ata ako...Tulong..

Then somebody gave her a help and take her in the near "manghihilot".

Maria: Kumadrona ho ba kayo? Tulungan nyo po ako.

Aling Bening: Ala ey! wag kang mag-alala iha. At ako'y marami ng napaanak.Halika na sa loob.

Aling Bening: Aba'y...
