Public Speaking
PRES 111/Unit 1
June 10, 2012
Abstract
Mastering the art of eloquent speaking also known as oratory is easy for most people; however, most if not everyone has trouble standing in front of other people speaking (Copeland, 2009). I am one of those people. Being able to speak in public is one of the most valued desires for anyone; but for Dr. Marc Dussault and Craig Valentine it was easy as 1-2-3.
Public Speaking
The thought of being in front of people whether in person or on camera is scary; however, for most people it is difficult. The two videos presented in this paper are used to describe the parts of the rhetorical triangle and may help anyone learn the eloquence of public speaking. Dr. Marc Dussault, founder of Business Mastery, and Craig Valentine have mastered eloquent speaking. I will determine if each of the videos was successful at describing the rhetorical triangle, and compare the two for differences and their effectiveness (AIU Online, 2009).
Public speaking takes practice when giving a presentation before a crowd. According to Copeland (2009), “people who speak effectively are likely to become leaders” (p. 865). Public speaking is a critical skill for leaders in any industry. With that being said, the rhetorical triangle will help any person become successful at presenting information to a small or large audience. The triangle represents equality between the speaker, audience, and the situation. All three parts of the rhetorical triangle should balance within the content of the message. If any part should fail; so does your presentation. The rhetorical triangle is a critical tool to utilize when giving a presentation (AIU Online, 2009, b; WOW, 2011).
