Learning Style and

What Type of Learner are We

Each person has their own type of learning style. A learning style is a method in which each of us utilizes to better understand material. A preferred learning style is a style in which the person can learn best, reflecting their strengths and weaknesses of the individual. In order to understand material we take it all in with our senses, through sight, sound, touch, smell or taste. Many of us have heard someone say, “I couldn’t figure out what they were saying, but once they showed me how I was able to do it.” This is an example of someone’s learning style. A learning style is the way a person prefers to process, internalize, and remember new information or concepts. We need to discover our learning style so that we can understand how can we learn more easily from some instructors than others and understand our strengths and weaknesses and choose study methods accordingly. We can discover our learning style by taking the Learning Style Questionnaire.

I have learned that there are five main ways of learning. For each of these five ways there is a particular style somebody may prefer. The first one is Auditory and Visual style. I am a visual learner because first, I can learn my best by reading and seeing. Second, I can learn by reading my notes or a textbook, and highlighting important facts. I am not auditory because auditory learners sometime need to hum to themselves or talk to themselves while studying to help them remember the information and are able to vividly remember lessons by verbally repeating them over and over again which I don’t do. I’m not an auditory learner because auditory learners are people who learn more effectively through listening to speeches or lectures. About 30 percent of the population is an auditory learner.

The second is Applied and Conceptual. I’m using applied learning style for the reason that I prefer task that involve real objects and situations. I’m not a conceptual learner...
