Part One

Readers of newspapers depend on accurate stories, full of good information regarding current events. Making up facts and fabricating sources will cause people not to trust the newspaper or company. Consumers get up-to-date information about what is going on in their community and around the world from newspapers and media so falsifying information and making up stories is serious and the reporter that did it should be held accountable. If I were the chief editor of a large metropolitan newspaper and I caught one of my reporters making up facts and fabricating them, I would fire that person because they have to be held responsible for their actions.

If my customer read a story that wasn’t true I could lose them as a customer which means my company would lose money. People want the truth about what’s going on around them and for the information to be correct. If a reporter has to make up stories and lie, then they shouldn’t be a reporter. A reporter should follow company guidelines and they also have an ethical responsibility not only to the company, but also mostly to the consumer. With the news that is available online, you can't trust some of it because you don’t know if the source is accurate. In my company I want to make sure all material and stories that comes out in my newspapers is the truth. I don’t want to be known as someone that lets their employee’s lie to customers.

Once I find that the reporter did fabricate stories I would call them into my office and let them know of my suspicions. I will try to get as much information from them about which stories they were not honest in. I would send them home until I could look into the situation further with my boss. I would get a team together and go through each story that the reporter did and see which ones were lies. Once I have got all my information together I would call the reporter in and...
