Party Plates

As an employee of Party Plates, I have been using the current software system for several years, in that time the system has proven to be useful. I would like to have the chance discuss and address the potential faults of the current system and provide a potential software upgrade that will allow for the company to expand, grow, and better maintain data within the organization.

Spreadsheet vs. relational database

Currently our company uses Microsoft® Excel® to gather and track all of our data. This system, while useful, might be better utilized for less essential tasks such as keeping our financial information or general company ideas. We should look into acquiring Microsoft® Access® as our company software of choice. This new system will give Party Plates additional necessary tools to both better services to our customers as well as our employees. Such additional tools from this system includes: maintaining of client data, purchasing information, trend analysis, and any type of data that the company wants to keep track of. Microsoft® Access® allows us to generate reports of customer habits, keep track of items that we have purchased and what sells, by maintaining this data and having quick data fields we will be able to ensure on-hand stock of products is kept consistent with the supply and demand.

Advantage to convert

The advantage to Microsoft Access is it can compile tables, queries, forms, and reports that will allow our company to be versatile to meet all the demands of our customers and the needs of our employees’. Currently our Microsoft Excel program keeps our data, but lacks capability once data is logged. We are unable to create multiple spreadsheets that communicate with each other and that would leave our company at a disadvantage.
