After reading the Study Notes for this lesson and after reading Marthaler, pp. 53-71, and the Catholic Catechism, pp. 61-118 [#279-#421], please answer the following. Take about one-half of a typed page for each.

1. Based on the Study Notes and on Marthaler, pp. 54-58, compare and contrast the two accounts of creation found in the book of Genesis.

Genesis is Greek for the beginning or origin. Both creation stories in Genesis present human beings as the result of Gods creation and are portrayed as the main characters in each of the stories. The two stories of creation from the book of Genesis are the ‘Garden of Eden’ and ‘And on the 7th day…’ The Garden of Eden says that God created man from the ground; man and women; Adam and Eve. God created everything good and wanted all man to experience happiness. The last step God took to was to create women because he saw a need for companionship. The story of Adam and Eve is a much older story. The work of creation that took 7 days is a lot newer than the Garden of Eden. God created everything day by day to work with his creations. He created everything in the image and likeness of God. Each day was a successive stage in his creation of the world. Although the stories do differ, creation is the beginning or history and illustrates Gods creative power.

2. Based on the Study Notes and on the Catechism, pp. 87-89 [#295-#301], describe the doctrine of creation out of nothing.

God created the world from his wisdom; it was no accident. As creatures we share in his being. God creates out of nothing; God is the origin of all things. God will not abandon us after our creation, he will help guide us to the light of his faith and help us resurrect our deaths. God is greater than all of his works. God created us in the image and likeness of himself, he didn’t need anything to create us, he is the Supreme Being and it is because of him that everything exists. He has supreme control over his...
