Almost half of us check social media in bed, during the night or as soon as we wake up in the morning. Four out of five of the teens experienced negative side effects when they disconnect from technology, and most of these students can’t go 24 hours without checking them. Other recent research shows that it may be harder to refrain from tweeting than it is to refrain from smoking and alcohol. While you have every intention of spending only a ‘few’ minutes checking your social media profiles, those well-intentioned ‘few minutes’ turn into an hour or even longer. Wasting your time online can actually destroy your productivity and it costs the American economy $650 billion per year in lost productivity.

Personal Privacy Concerns are the biggest issue in the social networks. Privacy concerns with social networking services have been raised growing concerns amongst users on the danger of giving out too much personal information, and the threat of sexual predators. Over-sharing is one way to make yourself an easy target for thieves. And also please, do remember, even with the privacy settings, posted information is never fully secured.

How much can we trust personal online postings? There was a pregnant woman posted a story on twitter and argued that she got kicked in her stomach by an employee of a franchise restaurant in South Korea for calling her ‘old lady’, and people reacted fiercely. Despite the formal apology from the restaurant’s president, people’s rage lead to a boycott movement. However, after checking the CCTV record, it turned out that it actually was the pregnant woman who kicked the employee. She said she was too shocked and unstable at the moment that she confused the facts.
