Case study 3.1. UPS is a larger company hence they have more money to spend. FedEx rather try to come at problems from a lot of different angles. FedEX do get great accolades in the trade press too, for being one of the great places to work on hot, innovative IT projects. FedEx tend to focus less on operational technology. But focus a little more on revenue-generating, customersatisfaction-generating, strategic-advantage technology. FedEx have an infotech competitive advantage over UPS. This probably wont last very long because companies tend to copy each other. They have to keep moving to be able to keep the competitive advantage. According to the article it seems as FedEx is the one with the competitive advantage. They seem to have the newer technology even though they are a smaller company. Hence their strategy seem to be the one to favor. It also seems like a good strategy to move fast instead of thinking first because of the rapid development in the IT-field. 2. According to the article the strategy seems favorable in FedEx case, since they are working in an environment where they have limited resources compared to their competitor so they need to be fast when it comes to new development in their field. It also seem to fit well with their business objectives where they want to communicate well with their customers and deliver their packages as swiftly as possible. If it is a good strategy for other companies is hard to say because IT strategies are supposed to be aligned with the business strategy of the company. Every company need to find the strategy that fits them best to make their investment as profitable as possible. It could probably fit well with companies who have a similar strategy as FedEx but I would not recommend using another company's strategy I would recommend implementing an unique strategy.
