Music Association

What music do you associate with childhood? How did/does this music make you feel? How do your choices reflect your childhood experiences?

I think the music I associated with childhood would be many different songs, songs such as Twinkle Twinkle Little star, Old McDonald, The Alphabet song, This Old Man, Ring around the Rosie, and Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. These songs remind me of when I was younger and my grandmother and mother use to sing them to me every day and every night, that was the only way I got to sleep at night or took a nap in the day, we also singed them in head start in circle time. Now I have two kids of my own and I sing these songs and more to them. My 3 year old son even sings them to his little sister she is 4 months, she just laugh at him when he sings to her. I can remember as a child my mother would always play music to clean the house, back then I thought “oh that look fun”, but now that I’m older it’s not fun to clean up all the time with no help. The music is all about making cleaning up go by faster and you don’t think about how much you got to clean up..

What music do you associate with adolescence? Was this music a way to fit in or rebel?

The music that I associate with my adolescence is music from the 1990’s. Even though I was born in the 90’s but when I got up in size I started picking up on the music. Some of my friends were also listening to it. So as I look back now I think it was a way to fit in and try to be cool because all my friends was listening to it. Yes, I went through a rebellious stage too, the music today I don’t let my kids listen to it because all the curse words and gang violence. You can’t understand the meaning of the song all you hear is the curse words. Music back when I was growing up had a meaning to it; you could understand what was being said.

What music do you associate with comfort? How do these songs help...
