1.0 Executive Summary:

In 2010, corporate merger and acquisition activity made a huge comeback. Most of the M&A action involved North American companies, but movement has also increased around the world, and in various market sectors and industries.   Unfortunately, many mergers and acquisitions fail to meet their objectives, which are typically to accelerate growth, cut costs, increase market share or take advantage of other synergies. Completion of the acquisition and integration operationally and culturally of two companies required human resources to play a major role.

The following course project pretends to examine the radical organizational changes performed by Sprint and Comcast since mid-90’s to increase their profits, gain as well as retain more and current customers. During the research process, we will analyze “Image of Change” and how each image by itself only solved part of the merging issues while the combination of several, might give organizations a better chance of handling changes with minimal damage. Also, an exploration of the Congruence approach will be performed and analyzed as a useful tool in helping leaders to understand and examine their organizations’ performance, working with their own people to design and implement solutions to their organization’s unique problems.

Last but not least, a well-planned and implemented communication strategy will be review since it contributes to the very success of the merger itself. To do a good job communicating a merger, the internal communication department needs to build solid working relationships with other groups...
