Genting

Introduction

Resorts World Bhd (RWB) was incorporated in 1980 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Genting Berhad. RWB made its debut on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange on 22 December 1989.

RWB is involved in the tourist resort business at Genting Highlands, Malaysia and the principal activities of the RWB Group include leisure and hospitality services such as amusement, gaming, hotels and entertainment; property development and management, investments, tours and travel related services and timeshare ownership scheme. One of the largest employers in the country, the RWB Group currently provides employment to over 9,000 people housed mainly at Genting Highlands Resort (GHR).

Over the past 36 years, GHR has grown to become one of the premier holiday and entertainment destinations in Malaysia and in Asia. For the year 2001, GHR attracted about 14.1 million visitors and a total of 2.7 million registered hotel guests with tourist arrivals from Singapore, China, the Middle East and India showing impressive growths of between 12% and 68%. GHR, also widely known as the Genting - City of Entertainment, promises a fun-filled time for tourists with a variety of entertainment such as casinos, theme park rides, concerts, multi-million magic shows, bowling centre and shopping outlets.

With the completion of the first phase of the First World Hotel comprising 3,300 rooms at the end of 2001, there are now five hotels at GHR namely Genting Hotel, Resort Hotel, Highlands Hotel, Theme Park Hotel and First World Hotel with a total of about 6,100 rooms. First World Hotel, the newest hotel at GHR, with its grand tropical rainforest themed lobby and attractive room pricing has been well accepted by tourists and is also the first hotel in Malaysia to introduce computerised queue system to expedite check-ins.
