1. What is the control function of management?

The control function of management involves measurement of accomplishment against the standards within a company and correction of deviation if any to guarantee achievement of goals.

Why does the controlling function of management have a negative connotation?

Many people emphasize that organizations has changed, so must the nature of management control. Some believe that management shouldn't exercise any form of control. They claim that management should exist to support employee's efforts to be fully productive members of organizations and communities and that control is completely counterproductive to management and employees.

How is the controlling function of management evolving?

The function of management is evolving because of technology. Businesses are being able to expand and go global because the resources that they have and the businesses being able to adapt to change. As technology rapidly grows so does the businesses

2. What are the types of control systems?

The types of control systems are bureaucratic control, market control, and clan control.

What are some advantages and disadvantages of the various control mechanisms?

Bureaucratic control uses "formal rules, standards, hierarchy, and legitimate authority", and this type of control system works well with specific tasks that are done by independent workers (Bateman & Snell, 2009, p.34). An advantage of bureaucratic control is there is less chance for confusion for making decisions, and there is a less chance of having confusion in the workplace, employees are aware of the their expectations.

Market control requires the use of prices, competition and trade. The disadvantage with market is that there will be constant change within the markets and it can cause problems with the security of the system.
