Module Three Questions

Segment One: Teen Pregnancy

1. If this was your client, what would you say and do? Be specific. Why would you respond this way?

If this were my client I would speak with her and talk in regards to the importance of life and how God gave the gift of life and how God knows that life before we ever have a clue of it. I would talk to my client about establishing a support system. We would discuss whether or not she has spoken to her parents and the father of the baby. By speaking to the teen in regards to this issue it helps to establish a thought process for the teenager. The teenager starts to think not only about talking to the parents on a level in just playing it over and over in her mind but she moves toward the act and in many cases asks the counselor to help in establishing this support system by taking part in informing the parents and sometimes the father. This can also help the teen in thinking in avenues on whether she is able to support the child or if she, in some cases, will put the child up for adoption. By responding in this way it helps the teenager to think but have a sounding board and someone to speak to that isn’t going to judge her but will help her.

2. What is an Informed Consent Form and why is it important? What would you include on your own Informed Consent Form regarding confidentiality? Why?

An Informed Consent Form “defines the boundaries and clarifies the nature of the basic counseling relationship between the counselors and the client” (Corey, 2011, p.160). The client signs and receives a copy of the form acknowledging they have received a copy of it. It is important because it states not only the conselor’s policies, the state laws, federal laws, but it also has the client’s rights on it advising them of their rights as a client.
