The movie Edward Scissorhands was a movie about the idea of “conformity.” Conformity is to live by only what is accepted in society. The movie some how contains bits of irony in it as well. It was a movie that had horror and romance in it. The setting of the movie and the townspeople portray the era of the 1950s. The townspeople all looked alike, by the way they dressed and their hairstyles. Even the neighborhoods and the houses looked very similar to one another. Edward was someone who didn’t really fit in especially because of his hands, which consisted of scissors, blades, and knives. This was something different for people in the 1950s because all everyone knew was to “fit in.”

The color of the scenes, the type of music being played, the different camera angles, & different graphics/images throughout the movie also helped to make it seem “horror” like. The different camera angles help to show everyone how different Edward’s world is and how differently he fits in the society that he lives in. During the credits you see scissor shapes and the colors of black and white, this automatically helps you know that it’ll be a scary movie. In the movie we see a haunted house, it has spider webs and it’s a dark colored house.

Peg Boggs, visits where Edward lives and decides to take him into her own home because he lives alone. During this scene the colors are mainly black and white except for Peg. This scene is mostly wide shot angles to show how big the house is compared to Peg. Edward decides to accept her offer and move in with her family, her husband Bill, son Kevin, and her daughter Kim. At first everyone in the neighborhood thought Edward was weird looking, but they are impressed because of his how skilled he is at cutting hair and the bushes.

A lady Esmeralda and Kim’s boyfriend automatically does not like Edward and decides to cause trouble within the home and family. Jim makes others believe that Edward is a thief and he then gets arrested. Another bad...
