Michael Jordan has revolutionized the game of basketball . He brought this sort of excitement and swagger to the game that had never quite been seen before . There were great players such as Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell , but they only specialized in certain aspects of the game . Whereas , Michael Jordan , he could do it all . He could pass , rebound , defend , handle the ball , score , and jump so high it seemed as if he floated the air . He has made a significant contribution in the world of sports . His accomplishments both on and off the court make him a World Icon . There is only one Michael Jordan .

February 17 , 1963 , Brooklyn , New York was the day a star was born . Michael Jeffrey Jordan is the son of James and Deloris Jordan . Michael Jordan is the fourth of five children . He has two brothers , Larry Jordan and James R . Jordan Jr ., one older sister , Deloris , and a younger sister , Roslyn . Little did James and Deloris know that their son , Michael , would later make a big impact on millions of sports fanatics , and change the game of basketball . Michael’s father worked as a General Electric plant supervisor , and his mother worked at a bank . Then when Michael was a toddler , his family moved to Wilmington , North Carolina .

Throughout his high school career , Jordan was very ambitious . He was a student at the Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington , North Carolina . He excelled in football , basketball , and baseball . Michael’s first attempt to play Varsity Basketball failed , his height did not match the eligibility criteria for selection . “Whenever I was working out and got tired and figured I ought to stop , I’d close my eyes and see that list in the locker room without my name on it ,” Jordan said , “ and that usually got me going again . ” A year later , he made the Varsity team and led it to the state championship . Michael’s senior year , he was selected to be on the McDonald’s All-American Team .
