ASSIGNMENT 4

Database Design for New Scheduling Process

Before a database is designed data should be gathered thoroughly and the requirements must be analyzed closely.

Purpose of the System:

The new database system will replace the present scheduling process of trainers to their respective courses.

Analysis of Data:

The present system which uses a dry-erase board could be very inefficient. Listed below are the disadvantages:

1. A trainer may schedule training at two locations at the same time since there is no one checking if the integrity of the data placed on the board is correct.

2. A trainer may missed out the schedule he/she placed when someone pranks and/or accidentally erases them.

3. Trainers will place schedule at their preferred time and change them frequently as they wish. This will be difficult for the trainees since no exact schedule is present.

4. Courses assigned to trainers may also be changed due to the manual logging in of data. This will waste time and money on both trainer and trainees.

Analyzing the facts of the present system, it is seen that data integrity and human error is a big issue in the scheduling process. This is true especially in an organization that will keep expanding. There will be errors and discrepancies since keeping track of the data will be very difficult as new courses and trainers are keyed in.

Proposed Solution:

To solve this dilemma, a new scheduling process is introduced, which includes the creation of database for trainers and courses. This will remove human error as the main reason for lost profit. It will also organize data and keep track of them easily when saved to a database. Below are some of its advantages:

1. A database will keep track of data integrity

2. Fetching data will be easier and more manageable than having it in a board.

3. Most human...
