Growing up I have always heard from my grandparents and my parents the slogan; “Money don’t grow on trees” and I never really understood what that actually meant. As I grew older I have gotten a better idea of why they would say this and know too well that this is true.

I am the youngest of three girls in my family, so people would say that I am spoiled and I would not disagree. I have never had to want for anything nor have my sisters; my parents have always put us first. Not many teenagers can say their daddy bought them a brand new car and never had to pay one single payment, pay for tires or any maintenance it needed. When I graduated high school I did not have a job and never was made to have one. I started college at CCCC in the fall of 2006 and I remember telling my daddy I wanted a job so I could have my own money and pay for my own stuff and he did not disagree. I started working at a small clothing store which being a teenager and loving clothes is a bad idea. I spent all the money I earned on everything but what I should have and never saved any of it. I had to have the name brand clothes, expensive purses, and the name brand shoes and never paid attention to how much anything was. I was always going shopping almost every single weekend I was not working or I was going out with friends. As I got older my daddy stopped giving me money to make me realize “money don’t grow on trees” and that I need to be more responsible and conservative with my money; so I took on a few minor bills like my cell phone bill and paid for the gas in my car . If I could go back to my first pay check I would have started saving money then and help my parents as much as I could with bills. Growing up we take advantage of the things our parents give us and some do not appreciate it and think they will always be there to lend a hand and a lot of times reality hurts. I wished my parents would have pushed me to get a job while I was in high school and gave me responsibility...
