Abstract

In this research paper, the discussed subject is the implications of strong and weak organizational culture in the organization life and business performance in order to stress on the importance of the design and development of the strong organizational culture. The strong organizational culture which aligns with the organizational values can increase the organizational effectiveness and vice versa weak organizational culture with little alignment to values is an organizational constraint that hinders the organization from achieving its vision. As a result, it is highly recommended for organizations to proactively design and create strong and positive organizational culture to ensure the sustainable success.

The research paper is made on the qualitative method by researching the works of well-known scholars in the field of organization studies, especially organizational culture and studying two cases of Hewlett Packard, a computer hardware giant and the auditing firm Arthur Andersen.

Introduction

A culture exists in every organization. It has a great influence on the organizational performance. Organizational culture as an organizational strength or weakness is subject to its alignment to the business philosophies, values and aspirations. Strong and positive culture will increase the effectiveness of the organization and pave the way to the progressive achievement of the organization’s vision. On the contrary, weak and negative culture will make the organization stagnate or even decline. The implications of strong and weak culture are so important that organizational leaders must focus much more on the design and development of strong and positive culture for sustainable growth of the organizations.
