Courtroom Work Group

Chance Mysteri DeSilvah

University of Phoenix

A courtroom work group is associated with plea bargaining. It is an informal arrangement with the Prosecutor, the judicial officer, and the defense attorney. In this meeting, the defendant in the case is assumed guilty instead of the typical assumed innocent. This saves time and money by not going to trial yet still getting justice for the crime. The daily interaction of the work group is to make sure that rules are being followed in each individual group but also to make sure it is given in a timely manner. The courtroom work group needs to communicate in order to offer plea bargains and choose jurors. The prosecutor represents the people. He or she is seeking justice for the people and has the people’s interest in mind only. The prosecutor is supposed to pursue cases that benefit the people the most after finding that the case is legally sound and that there are enough funds to pursue the case. He or she also is in a political light so that is also taken into consideration when analyzing cases. If the criteria for taking a case were more stringent, lawyers would specialize to a greater degree in order to maintain caseload; otherwise, they would have fewer cases. If the criteria were less stringent, they would be able to generalize their practice to a greater degree. My recommendations for the courtroom work group would be to truly look out for the people’s best interest, not just winning cases and plea bargaining people out instead of taking them to trial.
