Office Automation/Group Collabortation Software

Group collaboration software is essential for businesses, organizations, and companies. Without collaboration software, the production level of business would no be at its full capacity. Software creates a paperless office within a company. It is a system that allows everyone to maintain the same understanding and allow material to be dispersed and produced within a business. “Office automation refers to the varied computer machinery and software used to digitally create, collect, store, manipulate, and relay office information needed for accomplishing basic tasks and goals.” (wikipedia,2006) The most common forms of office automation software used within companies, in additon to the county deparment I work for, are word prcessors, file storage, and spreadsheets. This Software allows people within the county to work together on the same documents and projects over local and remote networks.

Working for the largest county east of the Mississippi River requires hundreds of employees. The main form of communication within the county is e-mail. Microsoft Excel allows county employees to communicate within different departments and with multiple people. Our email database is through Microsoft Outlook. This system allows me to search through numerous county employees in alphabetical order and obtain telphone numbers and/or extensions. It also supplies a calendar of events to keep up with the latest happenings around the county and within my department. The address book can be accessed through any county employee. Microsoft outlook provides a reliable and easy to operate source of communication between employees. Keeping up-to–date information on events and major topics is possible with by using this Microsoft software.
