Nursery worker:
Within a nursery setting many creative activities take place, such as:
Arts and crafts
Outdoor play on equipment
Indoor play with toys, water, and sand
Trips out of the nursery setting
The role of a professional nursery worker is to keep the children healthy and safe; this can be done by the following.
1. Risk assess the situation by:
Making sure the activity is suitable for the age group and not hazardous with equipment which could harm.
2. Making sure the ratio of staff is enough for the activity so that the children are correctly supervised.
3. Having enough supplies for the activity.
4. Making sure the equipment works correctly, is not damage, is clean and stable.
5. Making sure the area is clean, spacious, ventilated properly, has facilities to maintain proper Hygiene, and the floor surfaces are dry to stop slipping.
6. Making sure staff are first aid trained and present if an incident did occur.
7. Making sure the area is gated so the children cannot leave the premises.
8. Making sure electrical equipment is safe.
9. Making sure the children have pushchairs and safety reigns if leaving the nursery grounds.
10. Doing a register if leaving the grounds.
Overall the number one role of the nursery professional is to make sure that safety measures are present before starting any activity, they must supervise the activity looking for any danger and be able to meet needs professionally if anything happened. Once the safety measures are in a place an activity is able to go ahead and the staff will then:
* Engage with the children.
* Show enthusiasm.
* Educate.
* Keep them safe.
* Stimulate.
