Business owners need to know not only the current trends but how to find out about them and utilize them. Companies can stay current in the industry by: hiring the right people, networking, doing research, and knowing current trends.

Networking is essential especially with the growth of technology. Linked-In is one of the most popular networking web sites today. Professionals can use it to communicate and reach out to each other. Linked-In incorporates a picture, a description, and work experience so people can know this information without having a formal resume. Using sites such as Linked-In are not only great for networking but they also advertise people for potential jobs. This can be used in any industry not just hospitality, joining associations is also a great way to network with professionals in the hospitality industry.

The hospitality industry encompasses a great variety of businesses including: restaurants, casinos, hotels, cruise ships, resorts, and many more. There are associations specific to each sector of the hospitality scope, as well as associations for anyone in the industry to join. Some of these associations include the National Restaurant Association, Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International and the American Hotel & Lodging Association. There are many benefits to joining these groups. The most important way to network is face-to-face; these associations put industry professionals in the same room and allow for this. Many organizations have a local chapter which enables more frequent meetings with members. The Hospitality Sales & Marketing International has a Columbus chapter which meets monthly for a luncheon.
