Societal Issues

Societal Issues are issues that people faces in society. Concerning some of the issues that some students’ faces outside of school are self-esteem, racism, violence, homophobia, and poverty these are just a few that students faces. “I think that schools should play a huge role in giving students the knowledge and confidence to deal with these challenges. Children can have self esteem issues for many reasons. The can be ridiculed by their friends, siblings and even parents. I think it is our job as teachers to reinforce the good that students do. We may not be able to fix what is happening outside of school, but I think that we should let our students know that they are smart, and special, and important. Students also can be influenced outside of the classroom that their race is superior to all other races. This can then lead to difficulties in the classroom. Teachers should expose their students to different races and cultures and promote an environment where students can get to know each other” (http://www.associatedcontent.com). “Poverty is another societal issue that students face, and this issue can be very destructive to a student’s success. Schools should make it a priority to educate students about financial aid options and scholarships. Schools should also make sure that students are aware that they can surpass this social issue and overcome it. I think students may feel that they can not overcome this issue, but the school should be able to assist the student in realizing their potential to go beyond this social issue” (http://www.associatedcontent.com).

There are many societal issues that affect students and schools should make their best effort to help students overcome these issues. Schools should make sure to instill the knowledge that all students can surpass the issues they are given in society. Schools should also have the tools...
