Executive Summary

Condom industry is still an infant industry in Turkey. Condom penetration is very low in comparison with many European countries. However, condom consumption is continuously increasing for 10 years. Condom consumption is important for not only contraception but also protection against STDs(sexually transmitted diseases). Number of HIV+ people in Turkey is also increasing; many NGO’s are trying to draw attention to AIDS threat. Those kinds of social movements raise awareness about AIDS that urge people to use condoms.

Although condom market in Turkey is growing continuously, most of the people feel uncomfortable when purchasing condoms. According to researches 70% of males and 90% of females feel ashamed, while purchasing condom.

Sexual life is still being a taboo in Turkey. Especially youngsters cannot talk to their parents or friends about their sexual life. That’s why they are exposed to misinformation from several sources. Those sexual myths make them more vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancies.

I would like to set up a new website (Condomix.com) that not only sells condoms but also has a sexual health section in which people can reach general information about sexual health and ask their questions to the specialist doctors without introducing their identity.

Market Analysis

Condom market in Turkey is growing continuously, in last 5 years total turnover of the market has risen from 57 million TL to 85 million TL. First sexual experience age has fallen to age 13 in some regions, it is an indicator that growing in condom consumption will continue.
