CAPSULE PROPOSAL

A Situational Analysis of the Vulnerabilities and Quandaries of the Human Settlement area in Barangay VI-D in San Pablo City, Laguna.

I. INTRODUCTION

Located at the heart of the city with seven lakes >insert absolute distance< is Barangay VI-D where the main means of transportation are tricycles. Though is is located in an area considered to be a city, VI-D is considered to be rural, that is according to the barangay councilor we interviewed. It is a mixture of all walks of life, there informal settlers in the area, there are rich residents, but it is massively composed of middle class citizens. Originally, the barangay was the Lakeside Subdivision which was formally classified as a barangay in 1972 under the chairmanship of Antonio M. Azcarate. Today barangay has roughly 2000 residents and is under the Chairmanship of Hon. Generoso M. Bartolome along with 7 Barangay Councilors who are each in charge of looking over certain aspects to maintain the cleanliness, order and ensure progress. There is a Secretary who keeps the records and files of everything which concerns the totality of the community, a treasurer whoo keeps track of the expenses and 8 tanods who are in charge of peace and security.

One of the Lakes in San Pablo passes throught VI-D, the Sampaloc Lake. Some of the locals go there to fish for consumption. But the main product of VI-D is coconut, in fact they have a Coconut Festival every 15th of January to celebrate the abundance of coconuts in their barangay. They also export coconuts which are used in other parts of Laguna to create other products like the Buko pie in Los Banos.

Health is also very important for the residents in VI-D. They have fogging regularly to prevent dengue. Every Tuesdays and Thursdays there is a free medical check-up and free medicines for the residents in the barangay hall. The officials are planning on building a health center to better serve the residents.
