In my organization, many different databases are used on a daily bases.  Baptist Hospital is a large organization, and is in demand for numerous databases. Since many departments are within the Hospital, the Risk Management Department will be talked about in this paper. The Risk Management Department in Baptist Hospital takes care of; guidelines within the Hospital, law suits, teaching employees the proper way to handle patients. Risk management enters lots of data into computers that need to be entered correctly. This department uses Midas as the incident report system and Sovera a medical records service. These databases are extremely important to the Risk Management department because it holds all extremely important information about different cases and patients. Using these databases is important but there is always a place for improvements to these databases.

The Risk Management department has several applications that are used within the department such as Midas (MIDAS – Multiallelic Interallelic Disequilibrium Analysis Software). This program helps keep organization and useful process for evaluating medical care efficiency. The module includes entry forms for certification, authorization, concurrent review, avoidable days, and discharge planning. You can track avoidable days and denial detail by department, provider, or payer attribution, and quickly review the appeal history, including days and dollars recovered. Discharge planning is easy; case reviewers can quickly scan support service history for a patient or health plan member. Users can track and analyze clinical, utilization, and provider practice patterns, evaluate high-risk populations, and meet regulatory reporting requirements with The Joint Commission and CMS.
