Euthanasia Opinion Essay

There are many opponents who consider euthanasia as immoral way to avoid physical and psychological sufferings that oppose humanity and religious points of view. Firstly, there is a widespread belief among human beings that every person has the right to die with honor. In the opinion of experts terminally ill persons often make a request for euthanasia in order to avoid the loss of control over their own body, personality disorder and consider it as the way to die with dignity without loosing identity (Mak, Elwyn, & Finlay, 2003). It could be argued that some incurable patients are afraid of the intolerable pain and being dependent on medical staff with the progression of disease. Therefore, it seems that the request for euthanasia is not insincere and forced only by fears, depriving the patient an opportunity to analyze his or her life before the death. Secondly, it is necessary to point out that such religions as Christianity, Islam and Judaism consider euthanasia as morally wrong practice that should be prohibited. As Benson (2010) states, many religious people believe that life is most sacred and precious thing that human beings have and there is no one except God, who has the right to take life away even if the pain is intolerable. Hence, it could reasonably be argued that life is something that every religious person should preserve and protect because any desire of departure from the life could be considered as breaking commandments of God that were described in sacred books. Thirdly, some people claims that the one of the reasons why terminally ill patients ask for euthanasia, is low quality of medical service and absence of psychological help. Singer and Siegler (1990) argue that the central aim of physicians is to reduce the pain of by using analgesics and often they not give patients a sufficient dose of medications in order to avoid addiction and side effects.
