Personal Statement

PERSONAL STATEMENT – HOW THE M.Litt PROGRAMMME WILL ASSIST MY FUTURE CAREER.

I find the profession of human resource management intriguing as it deals with a passion of mine which is the study, well-being, and development of myself, my environment and people. This made my decision to pursue a masters degree in this course a no brainer.

I studied English at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I graduated as one of the top three students in my class with a second class upper division with a GPA of 3.9.

My first experience in leadership and management was in my final year in secondary school when I was appointed a house prefect. This position gave me the opportunity to learn the worth of good leadership as I had to listen and respond to issues on a daily basis.

I currently work with Zenith Bank Plc. which is one of the best and largest financial institutions in Nigeria as the head of the customer service department at the head office. Since holding this position in 2009, I have come to enjoy and appreciate the fact that managing a workforce is a sensitive and enormous responsibility. It has taught me that every person is unique. This role has been a huge eye opener and has helped me to gain strong interpersonal, creative and organizational skills, which is an integral part of human resource management. I deal with my subordinates, peers and senior management executives. I am responsible for training new and existing staff at orientation classes and retreats.

I have also championed an annual visit to orphanages, prisons and hospices. This serves as an opportunity to give back to society and also creates an avenue for team bonding. It has been an awesome experience!

I am currently in the process of gaining certification as a project manager professional, and human resource management is my favourite subject.

Upon graduation, my career goal is to lead and teach a team in a leading multinational company, contributing to its advancement by applying my acquired skills...
