Internet Tools at Dirt Bikes

Dirt Bikes’ management has expressed a concern about the amount of money being spent on communicating with people inside and outside the organization, and obtaining information about developments in the motorcycle industry and the global economy. Dirt Bikes would like to know how Internet tools and technology could be used to help their employees communicate and obtain information more accurately and efficiently. Dirt Bikes has departments that include Sales and Marketing, Human Resources and Production.

A tool that may that may be beneficial for Dirt Bikes is the use of Intranets. An Intranet is a private network used within a company. It uses the existing company infrastructure along with Internet connectivity standards and software developed for the World Wide Web (Laudon & Laudon, 2009, p.212). Intranets are networks that connect all of the departments together and allow the user to access company information. This would be useful to the Sales and Marketing department because they would have access to any information related to what is being sold and what is not. A strategy that would increase sales of the products could be introduced and this information could be used to market in new areas. If they could access the Intranet, they could be up to date with current product information, which in turn would allow them to better alert any merchants as to what products need to be moved. Intranets would also be beneficial for Human Resources. For example, they would be prepared to handle staffing needs. It would help them to determine if employees were needed to meet production and manufacturing needs. By doing so, the production and manufacturing departments could better prepare themselves to help customers with the access to Sales and Marketing information because the Intranet would have this information ready for them.
