Five Year Career Path as a Medical Biller

Health Information Management is described as the care of health records within many areas of the health care sector including hospitals, physician’s office, clinics and varying health departments and insurance companies. Health Information Management professionals decide and execute information systems and policies in accordance with utilization of the information management technology.

Medical Biller

The career path that I have chosen was Medical Biller. My first year I would be performing a variety of complex clerical and accounting functions for patient billing, including verification of invoice information, maintenance of third party billing records, and resolution of a variety of problems. I would also follow up on submitted claims and patient billing, resubmit claims or resolve problems. Other duties may include handling cash items and accounts receivable posting as well as working with others in a team environment. In this position working at a hospital I plan on making about $12-$15 dollars an hour based on a 40-hour work week.

Health Information Technician

My second and third year I plan on working as a Health Information Technician. My job would be to receive patient forms, medical histories and test results from medical professionals. I must first examine the data to ensure that it is correct and accurate. I then organize and store this information through electronic databases. My primary responsibility is to keep all patient records confidential, because they contain sensitive details. I would then contact the doctor or nurse to clarify that way I received is accurate. In this position I plan on making $45,000 dollar a year based on my previous experience.

Benefits Coordinator
