Challenges Family Planning

Family planning is defined as " the use of birth control to determine the number of children there will be in a family and when those children will be born" (Websters) There is conflict on the right and wrong way to make these choices one of the main discussions is whether or not it is acceptable to use medical device to determine the size of a family. Medical devices are considered a range of options from condom, the pill, IUD's and injections; each of these devices inhibit sperm from fertilize an egg. Many religious organizations feel that it is unacceptable to prevent such fertilization via a medical device, which the interference with the sperm reaching the egg is against religious teachings. In the 2012 the united states had 3,952,937 births the discussion how to manage births in the United States is often a heated argument with impute from religious leaders, local and federal government even the average man and women.

Options for family planning often depend on your moral belief system. Those who feel that medical devices are not a good choice for them have several options to help shape the size of their family, firstly abstinence is the first option for prevention of pregnancy and the spacing of children it is always 100% effective. Other options for prevention of pregnancy that are acceptable for most religions is called Natural Family Planning, this refers charting the times when a women most fertile. Two of the more common programs are The Billings Ovulation Method and Sympto-Thermal Method.

The Billings Ovulation Method is a preferred method for family planning within the Catholic Church; it is stated to be simple and very effective method of planning the size and frequency of children with in a family.
