Organizational Behavior Final Project

“Organizational Behavior is the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals, and groups act in organizations.” (Clark, 2011) Before this class I had a little idea of what it entailed but no clue on what it spanned on. Basically, its function is to create improved relationships by accomplishing organizational, human and social objectives. This subject includes an extensive range of topics, like human behavior, leadership, teamwork, etc.

QUESTION ONE

At the present I am a Support Manager at PetSmart. I have only been in this position for 7 months and was promoted up from Pet Products Lead/ stocker. It has taken quite some time for other employees to see me in a position of authority and not their friend anymore. For example, just last week I had to write an action plan on one of the employees for telling me no and being insubordinate. This is an employee that has been talked to several times and chooses to ignore the fact that she is not in charge. I have tried different approaches with this employee but nothing seemed to work until she was given an ultimatum and we sat down and actually talked at length. “Feeling unheard can often be the cause of low morale and high employee turnover. While listening does not necessarily mean incorporating each suggestion into your company or changing every policy based on what one employee says, it does mean giving the ideas full consideration.” (Denali Advanced Integration, 2013) It turned out she was feeling unheard by other managers and taking it out on me since I had the closest relationship with her. I discussed this with the rest of the management team and are going to try to implement a new attitude since we all feel she can be a valuable, knowledgeable employee.
