Every country has its own traditional learning style which is generally accepted by students who believe and do things in the same way in each country. The British academic culture is different comparing with my country, Thailand. British students are more familiar with an interaction in class, reading lists and a referencing than Thai students. However, teaching methods and the main point guessed by students are quite similar in both countries; therefore, British and Thai students have some similarities and differences in academic culture.

The first difference is the interaction in class. Thai students believe that it is not proper to interrupt a teacher during her teaching time so students should wait until the end of the class for asking some questions about that lesson; in contrast, British students are usually expected to have some interactions by asking question immediately when they feel uncertain.

Another difference between Thai and The United kingdom academic cultures are the amount of learning sources. Whereas students in Thailand have a certain course book or sheets for their courses, British teacher provides their students a reading list, the list of important books related to their studies, to make sure that the student can read widely.

The last difference is the importance of referencing. Thai students have not learnt much about referencing which means that Thai students usually don’t concern about a thing written on their essay, so they prefer to use a “Copy and Paste” way--to copy the work without providing any mention about someone idea. While students in The UK give value to the reference to avoid a plagiarism and pay respect to the source of that information.

Despite these differences, there are three similarities on both countries.

One obvious similarity is the teaching methods. The basic methods of both academic cultures are quite the same. There are lectures, seminars, practical works, workplace training, group works and...
