Courage

Everyone has the ability to be courageous. Courage is overcoming obstacles that are difficult and frightening. Stephanie Moore was very courageous; she showed courage when she finally left her husband, who had been abusive to her for years. She had three children with him and knew it wasn’t good to have them witnessing the abuse, but she was so frightened of her husband to just leave. It was a process, but she finally did it and ended up providing a better life for her and her three children.

Stephanie and Rob met and started dating when Stephanie was only seventeen years old. Stephanie got pregnant not long after they started dating and before really getting to know Rob; this was about the time Rob started abusing her. The first time it happened, they started arguing over something that angered him and he hit her in the face. He hit her so hard that blood started pouring from her nose and mouth. It didn’t stop there; he kept on hitting her over and over. Months went by and even after the baby was born he still continued to mentally and physically abuse her. He would put her down and call her names constantly. He even went as far as to chase her with a gun threatening to shoot her and their child. He said, “if I can’t have you and my child then no one will.” She tried leaving him several times, but always ended up going back to him. He would tell her things like, “I will change,” and “I won’t ever put my hands on you again.” When he would sweet talk her into coming back, she would believe him, and he would change for a little while, but he would always turn back into the evil man he really was. Stephanie stayed with Rob for seven years and ended up having two more children with him. She was always too frightened of him to leave, but one night she got the courage and left; she finally had, had enough.
