Psychology involves a lot of researching and in order to research a specific case there has to be ways these researches could be done such as surveys, case history, naturalistic observations, experiments, correlations, etc. Including these, there are many other research methods a researcher could adopt.

Survey is a questionnaire in which peoples attitude toward something is observed and how they express their feelings about a particular topic whereas case history is all about studying an individual in depth with what the researcher wants to study and then is analyzed and observed further. Naturalistic observation is viewing a particular species. It is to observe the behavior of a person or animal in a natural environment without them knowing that they are being observed.

As we know there are benefits and disadvantages to everything in life, the same applies to these research methods. The benefit for surveys is that it is quick and efficient than interviewing thousands of people. The disadvantage is that they aren’t accurate enough because the return rate in some cases is lower. Case study, like surveys, also has benefits and disadvantages. The benefits to perform a case study is are that it allows the researcher to look into depth and study the case when there aren’t really any examples for the given situation. On the other hand, the disadvantages are that the results can be bias if the information is generalized. The benefits for naturalistic observation is that it is real and natural but the disadvantage is that it is time consuming and researcher has no control over it.

Each research method is effective but each have disadvantage which may affect the results for the study.
