To persuade you that through hospice, death can be good and provide much for the one who is dying and the ones left behind.

Death scares us for many reasons, mostly the process of dying, what happens after we die, and those we leave behind. But the only absolute certainty in this world is that we die. No death is greater than another, but when we know that death is upon us, the process of dying can change, for we can take control. That control is with hospice.

In order to convince you that using hospice is a choice in which there is only one answer, I will tell you about the history of it, and the difference between hospice and palliative care, what types of services hospice offers, and what hospice does for the family leading up to and after death.

The word hospice comes from the Latin word hospitium, meaning hospitality and from the old French hospes, or host. Webster’s defines it as a shelter or lodging for travelers, children, or the destitute, often maintained by a monastic order. The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization describes it as this: “Hospice provides support and care for persons in the last phases of an incurable disease so that they...
