1 Introduction

1.1 Purpose

This report describes the tasks assigned and the progress made towards their completion during a summer internship at Alliance Engineering.

1.2 Background

From May 2013 to August 2013 an internship position was offered at Alliance Engineering. This program met with the requirements of the VCU School of Engineering 2009 Course Brochure for mechanical and nuclear engineering and was used to satisfy those requirements. During the course of the internship, several tasks were assigned. Some of the tasks were carried out to completion, however, due to their long term nature, some were not. This report endeavors to provide a description of the requirements, actions taken towards completion, difficulties encountered, progress made, and status of these tasks. This report also fulfills requirements from ENGR-410 Review of Internship.

1.3 Assignments

The overarching assignment of this internship was observing and providing assistance to Jim Herd, a senior mechanical engineer with over 20 years of experience in the company, in order to gain a better appreciation of the duties and day to day activities of a practicing engineer.

1.4 Scope of Work

This report is a personal assessment of the status of the major tasks that were assigned while in a summer internship program for Alliance Engineering. It is not an exhaustive accounting of every hour spent with Alliance. The report will give the salient points of large or critical tasks undertaken during the internship. Exact figures are used where available, though in many cases the notes on the individual projects are no longer available for use in this report.
