Who does not like to make more money? For many people it's the only reason why they even work the job that they have. Some people would do anything they can just to make an extra buck, I however am not one of these people. So for me the issue of being asked by my boss to keep the books open to make revenues look better for the previous year is a no brainer. I would without hesitation say no to my boss because of my morals, the fear of the consequences and the fact that the risks outweigh the reward.

My morals are the first reason why I would not keep the books open to make the company's revenue look better for the previous year. I know that by keeping the books open I am basically lying, and when you lie that is morally wrong. You would be tricking people into believing that the company you work for is doing very well, when in fact it is not. The company only appears to be doing well because of the misrepresented numbers that I recorded. I would feel terrible when people invest in the company because they believe the company is successful. My guilt would grow because I would know that the only reason why they are investing is because of the lie I made, and that is just wrong. I would not even know how to begin to describe how bad I would feel if the company went bankrupt and people lost their money all because I did not stand up for what I believe in, do my job properly, accurately, and honestly.

Another reason why I would never even consider keeping the books open is the fear of being caught and all the repercussions I could face. It would be absolutely horrendous to be caught and face prison time, just to make some extra money. Not to mention whenever I do get out of prison it will be damn near impossible to get a job as an accountant again after already having been caught. I do not know what would be worse, giving up on my career of being an accountant, or having to tell every future job application of my criminal past. A terrible act like...
