336009 VTP and VLANs

Name: Carson Bell

Date: February 3, 2013

Professor: Timothy Roseberry

336009 VTP and VLANs (10 points)

Write a paragraph (minimum five college-level sentences) below that summarizes what was accomplished in this lab, what you learned by performing it, how it relates to this week’s TCO’s and other course material; and just as important, how you feel it will benefit you in your academic and professional career

This lab relates to this week TCO’s because during week 4, we learned about VTP concepts, VTP operation and VTP configuration. This lab was also an addition to week 3 because we learned about VLANs. Being able to work hands on in a virtual lab, dealing with real situations, was a good way for me to learn and accomplish the following basic skills presented in this week lab:

• VTP configuration

• VLAN creation

• Configuring IP addresses appropriate to separate VLANs

• Configuring trunks

• Assigning ports on a switch to a specific VLAN

How will this benefit me from a career standpoint? One of the many things to master as a network engineer is the ability to optimize different job tasks. The easier and quicker it is to perform a specific task, the more time can be spent on more pressing issues. When administering a large switched network, one of the tasks that can take a lot of time is setting up separate VLANs across each of the switches. VTP allows a network manager to configure a switch so that it will propagate VLAN configurations to other switches in the network.

How will this benefit me in my academics? The information that I have obtained from my previous networking courses have been beneficial in this course. Everything that I have learned, I have been able to carry on to this course and learn more.

Also, after completing the lab, you must show your work by copying and pasting a screenshot of the following configurations/verification:
