The Power of Courage

There are many challenges that people face in the world. There are everyday challenges to challenges people have within themselves. Some people let these challenges get the best of them and tear them apart, while others take them as lessons and they use them to push forward in life and strive for greatness. Courage is being able to stand up for yourself when no one else will, it is being able to strive for better and beat the odds. This is what made Jamar Brown Courageous.

Jamar Brown over came the adversity of sexual orientation discrimination in order to excel in life. As a young boy everyone knew Jamar was different. That he was unique. Growing up he was very quiet and to himself. He was always locked away in his room. His siblings and peers picked on him and called him weird because he did not act like the other boys his age. When Jamar reached 10th grade, he would announce that he was homosexual. To Jamar's Surprise his family his family already knew and welcomed him with open arms. However, other people weren't so accepting. He was constantly abused both mentally and physically. He often felt alone. Jamar was one of three children. He had an older brother, John and a younger sister, Kyndel. So Jamar was a middle child. His old Brother was every bit of a jock. John played on the high school football team and basketball team. A regular all-American. This made Jamar feel even more alone because he didn't think he could be like his older brother. When it was his turn to go to high school his brother had graduated and everyone expected him to follow in his brothers footsteps. His toughest high school experience was when the gym coach insisted that Jamar join the football team and be more like his brother after Jamar expressed time and time again that he was not interested.
