The organization that I choose in my community is the Hope House Thrift Store and Parenting Center. They offer many benefits and services to the community. One of the major service and benefit they offer is the voucher system. When someone comes in and has a positive pregnancy test they are then offered parenting classes. The lessons are normally about an hour and include a DVD and homework. Once parents complete the course mothers are given “mommy money” and dads are given “Daddy Dollars”. These vouchers can be used in the mommy mall to purchase baby items such as cribs, clothes and diapers. You can also earn these vouchers by attending Bible study classes offered on Thursday mornings.

The parenting center also offers expert services. They have certified staff that give pregnancy test. The also have volunteer counselors in several areas. They have people on staff that are knowledgeable on the different services that are available in the community for expecting parents. Although they are a Christian based center they offer information from experts on abortion and counseling services pertaining to this. They also offer information on adoption and the different types of adoption and counseling for this also even post-postpartum.

The thrift store runs solely on donations from the community. Money from the store is used to fund the Parenting Center. If I am understanding subsidies correct, the organization allows people who are on probation to come in and work in the store as part of their community service and probation fees. The Thrift Store also offers the benefits and services of material goods/commodities. Clothing they think will not sale in the store or that have been in the store for a while they give away to the homeless people in the neighborhood.
